About WCS and WMS services:
► Short presentation
The objective of Copernicus web services is to facilitate the access and the consultation of public data in order to make them interoperable with georeferenced data from other Administrations or other sources. Read more...
A web service is a software system (API) to support communication and data exchange between heterogeneous systems and applications in distributed environments. So this is a set of interfaces reachable from the Internet or an Intranet, for machine to machine interaction in real time.
A web service offers different types of services, mainly :
- WMS services: View services, i.e. the simple display of maps (WMS1 protocols and/ or WMTS 2)
- WCS services: Download services of data (WCS3, WFS4 and SOS5 protocols).
► Use case examples for a Copernicus user:
→ WCS services allow you to download numerical data that suits your interest.
By requesting via the WCS API you can now download, for example, a product such as " Ozone forecast issued by Ensemble model at level 3000m , step +12H based on the today reference time and over Spain (by mentioning longitudes and latitudes of the domain) "
Using this brand-new API, you will be able to tune your data acquisition depending on your issues.
→ WMS services allow you, using our WMS API, to get suited data matching your interest but this time as map layers.
For example you can get ozone concentration at surface level for 3 days of forecast via getMap requests through a GIS environment (see FAQ tutorial : "How to request the WMS services via a GIS tool?").
► Documentation: All details of Copernicus Regional air quality web services are described in the Guidelines -INSPIRE web services.
Info : About access rights to web services
In order to get access rights to web services, you must provide a valid token.
Please read the CAMS50 data license terms for acceptance. Then return it signed to cams50_support.
A username and password will be sent to you in a short time.
Then, you will have to generate a token. All details are available in the WebServices API reference guide and also in FAQ section - Question: How can I get a token for the web services?.
In addition, you will find in this document a description of all web services facilities and how to use our WCS & WMS API.
